In both Somaliland and Puntland, HRM upgraded airport security systems by installing security technologies, providing training to airport staff, and creating necessary safety procedures. HRM is currently managing all aviation security at three main airports in Puntland: Bosaso, Garowe, and Galkayo.
HRM has a strong footprint in aviation security in Somalia, utilising the expertise from international personnel with backgrounds which includes the Royal Air Force (RAF) and roles in upgrading airports to International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) standards in other kinetic environments such as Iraq and Afghanistan.
These international standards are continuously trickled down to the larger HRM workforce in the airports, ensuring that the HRM mission of building capacity in Somalia is adhered to wherever possible. HRM airport staff are compliant with ICAO Annex 17 Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs) to ensure the safety of all personnel who use these airports.
HRM is responsible for a variety of security focal points within the airports. These responsibilities include the training and use of scanning equipment comprising x-ray machines and walk-through metal detectors, the recruitment and training of airport security personnel, access control and passenger screening.
